what about jorge cantu?

whats keeping him from making a nice impact?

his minor league numbers are very impressive,
and though i've never seen him play in a game,
he looked like he could hit the ball pretty damn well......
well, in BP, heh.

Look at his walk ratio and you will have your answer. He has 16 walks in 364 AB's, in other words he is a big free swinger. Players of that nature very rarely have much of any impact when they are first called up. Also, I know his numbers look good, but he isn't that good of a prospect. Though as a Rays fan I hope he prooves me wrong.

None come to mind. None that will make a significant impact.

Gathright's 2B eligible with Sportsline for this year (and now OF as well). I don't think Cantu will hit much higher than .240-.250 if given regular PT this year.

Brandon Phillips is probably the guy capable of making the biggest impact right now, but with Belliard playing well and Omar not heading elsewhere most likely -- he'll only be a Sept. callup.

Tony Batista is playing too well currently for Brendan Harris to have a shot this year.

There's a possibility Kent goes down for a period of time (already hampered by injuries) & Chris Burke gets the call.
