Wilson Alvarez will return to the Dodger rotation in place of Kazuhisa Ishii.
Alvarez should be picked up yet again in mixed leagues. He's worth owning for as long as he's left in the rotation

well he has a 3.3 era, 1.05 whip and almost 7.5 K/9 innings...not bad at all for a fifth starter on a fantasy team...add that to pitching half his games in dodger stadium....worth a shot if u need some innings in roto league.....

The Dodgers are sick of Ishii's inconsistancy, so he's been demoted to the Pen. Unless he proves that he's incapable, Alvarez will be the Dodgers' 5th starter. He's been putting up great numbers as a middle reliever, and the only real concern is his injury history. Until he gets injured, Alvarez is a great option as long as he stays in the rotation.

For what it's worth, the whole thing about Ishii being demoted may be blown out of proportion. There's an article on MLB.com today in which Tracy stated that Ishii will be starting Saturday's game.........at this point, it is anybody's guess as to whether Alvarez will join the rotation (again) or stay in relief, but my guess is relief.....

I typed out a long response, but my internet connection timed out. Here's a summary. With Penny's injury, the rotation looks like this:

Perez
Weaver
Ishii
Lima
Alvarez

When Penny comes back, it will look like this:

Penny
Perez
Weaver
Lima
Alvarez

EDIT: Out of these 5, Alvarez is the most likely to be demoted to the bullpen if Ishii comes back into the starting rotation. As of right now though, Tracy seems pretty intent on using these 5 starters for the remainder of the season

When Jackson comes back, he might take Alvarez' place. If Nomo comes back strong, he could also be a candidate to replace Alvarez. Ishii's inconsistancy has landed him in the bullpen for now. The only reason why he's starting is because Jim Tracy doesn't have any other viable options. Unless Ishii pitches lights out until Penny comes back, he'll return to the Pen.

Nomo's return could make it interesting if he pitches well though...

That's my $0.02, and that's the word on the streets here in LA.

Alvarez was supposed to be in the rotation to replace Ishii but when Penny went down they still needed a 5th starter, i.e. Ishii.

seems like he will certainly get a handful of starts in the short-term so I'd certainly grab him if he's available....unfortunately he was shifted to the pen with no forewarning last time so it's anyone's guess how long his rotation tenure will be....
