Ciao Tosca

So Carlos got the axe, eh?

Even though they play so many games against the AL east and have had most of their stars down with injuries, I can't say that I disagree with the decision.

Riccardi wants to play moneyball. He wants the hitters to take walks and hit for power. The hitting this year has been very undisciplined. Wells has regressed, Phelps was ruined and the team BA is not good. The coaching staff has to be blamed for a poor job with the hitters.

Riccardi is going to have to look in the mirror soon. Tosca was a Riccardi guy and so is the new guy. If he can't pick coaches he has to admit is own failure soon.

As far as the moneyball concept goes, I have never liked it but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. After more than a year I can say that I no longer dislike it...I hate it. Go back to stealing bases and bunting. We are rebuilding, lets use our prospects' speed, energy and enthusiasm and let em play. Even if we lose, at least it will be more exciting.

You made good assesments but I think the bullpen miseries have a lot to do with the 15 games under .500

Delgado's departure will free up a lot of money and it will be nice to see someone who can actually play first base! They should go after a shortstop and a catcher and with rebound years from Hinske, Hudson and Wells, they will do fine.

Pitching looks good but remember Aquilino Lopez? It's so hard to predict what pitchers will do from one year to the next.

Nice comments.

I agree that the bullpen is the main concern. May be the worst 'pen in the majors.

The 'pen is not Tosca's fault though. There was nothing that he could do about Aquilino's melt down (have you seen his minor league stats?? ughh) or the awful performances by Lightenberg and Adams. Riccardi gets the blame for hiring them.

Tosca was fired for his poor work with the hitters and not staying with the franchise philosophy.

The comments about the 1b, ss and the catcher were the exact ones made during the game yesterday on the radio.

How many times can the Jays strike gold with a vet catcher? Fist Myers and now Zaun. They will have to try for a third year because Cash is not doing it and Quiroz is David Ross-like in the minors.
