Rotoworld:
Jason Giambi has been given clearance to resume playing. He'll begin rehabbing with Single-A Tampa.
The Yankees haven't set a timetable for his return, but depending on how his body reacts over the next few days, he could be back soon, definitely before the end of the month.
I must say this is promising news after having already resigned myself to the possibility that he would be a total waste on the year. Here's praying for a hot return.
He's a total waste for this year fantasy wise as it is. Even if he gets back sometime by next week he has been out of the loop for awhile now. Most of us have found decent replacements and I'm more confident sticking with Morneau than I am gambling on Giambi. Maybe next year.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
I picked up Giambi last week... I'm trying to dump him for anything now, because I don't think he'll contribute, but I have a huge hole at SS. If I can get a top 10 shortstop, I'm getting rid of him.
I doubt he'll hold up. (But if he does, I'd be hard pressed to fit him into my lineup. I have Konerko and Helton at 1b and utility.)
Didn't Jason just spend a month not eating? I don't know if you guys know this, but that can really sap your stamina and strength. Combined with his dimished BA over the last few years . . . well, I don't have high hopes for Giambi. Or any hopes, really.
I have been down on Jason since last year....we all kept hoping for the turn around then....and it never happened then....and I don't look for much improvement if he comes back this year....

Wow. Good luck with that.

Yeah I dropped his butt a while back now. No looking back now. Morneau is filling in nicely.

giambi wont make a fantasy impact down the stretch. id be shocked if he even starts in the postseason. if we can get 1 big postseason HR out of him id consider the yankees lucky
