Mother nature and Mike Mussina

Well, looks like those of you who were hoping that Mike Mussina might be activated next Sunday and pitch for the Yanks against the Mariners are a bit out of luck. It was a long shot, I know, but something many of us were eagerly anticipating.

Mussina's rehab start slated for tonight has been pushed to tomorrow night because of rain (meaning he wouldn't get enough rest to pitch on Sunday).

Mussina will now pitch tomorrow for Triple-A Columbus. It seems unlikely that the Yankees will want to bring him back on three days' rest to start Sunday, so other plans are going to have to be made. Aug. 9 - 6:34 pm et

I suppose the silver lining in that rain cloud is that Mussina would be eligible to come back the following week and maybe have two starts (the 1st would be againt MN and the 2nd would be against [gulp] Anaheim).

It's all very speculative, but figured Moose watchers would like to know.

He will be a welcome addition to the New York rotation

It would seem that I'm the self-appointed president of the Mike Mussina fan club.

Any way, here's some info on his rehab start last night. I suppose it's good news (5K's in 3 innings albeit against Triple-A players):

Mike Mussina - P, Yankees Aug. 11, 8:57 p.m.
Mussina's rehab start Wednesday was encouraging, and now it's quite likely he'll return to the Yankees' rotation next week. Mussina struck out five in three scoreless innings at Triple-A Columbus. He allowed two singles and no walks.
