Postby LouisC9999 » Sun Aug 08, 2004 1:08 am

He comes in with a 6-3 lead and two outs and gets the final out.

How is this a save?

ok here we go

Definition:
the pitcher is the last pitcher in a game won by his team
the pitcher is not the winning pitcher
the pitcher fulfills at least one of the following three conditions
1)he comes into the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches at least one inning
2)he comes into the game with the potential tying run being either on base, at bat, or on deck
3)he pitches at least three "effective" innings

he pitched the last out, didn't get the win, and came in with a lead of no more than 3 runs.

But for 1) he didn't pitch at least one inning. He pitched a third of an inning so condition 1) isn't satisfied.

Thanks. I didn't realize that there was anyone on base when he came into the game.
