X.Nady's Future in SD?

Postby ny69mets86 » Sun Aug 08, 2004 12:55 am

What does the future hold for Xavier Nady in SD? Nady, 25, has always been a highly regarded prospect. He held his own in 300+ MLB at bats last year, but other than that, hasn't been given much of a chance. He's hitting over .300 at AAA this season, and he's better than Payton and Long right now.

I believe Nady's four year deal with the Pads that was signed back when Nady was picked in 2000 expires after this season...

Good question for sure.

I think Nady ends up as the fourth/fifth OF in SD next season if he's still in the organization. Unless he gets more selective at the plate, he's never going to approach his potential.

He's clearly fallen behind Freddy Sanchez on the Padre prospect charts among the OF's.

Yes ... Freddy is the future in center, but I don't see Nady playing any significant role in SD for the near future ... Kevin towers has a few decisions to make this offseason. He has (2) 1B in Nevin and Klesko and something is going to have to give there. Will that open up a spot for Nady? Doubtful. Kevin doesn't have a problem going with the youth if they can play, ie Burroughs and Greene, so it would be safe to assume that they are not all that high on Nady anymore since they continue to play Buchanan and Long over Nady.
