Plays for PIT and currently has:
0.78 ERA
0.83 WHIP
28 K in 23 IP
Opp BA 0.181
Anybody have any info on this guy? With Calero just injured, I'm thinking of picking him up after trading away Gordan.
MRs are awesome. Even though my league doesn't count holds, they have helped me lower by WHIP and ERA by quite a bit this year.

This guy is a great pitcher. I want to known if there is any chance of him being the closer next year. I'm sure Mesa won't be back. I know that Torres is next in-line to close but what is hi contract situation for next year?

Damn the Redsox had him for like a day last season, before Pitt pitched a fit over Brandon Lyon's health

Picked him up 2 weeks ago in my 16-team league counting holds. Some solid stats (which I didn't notice before that time) from him.
I don't think he'll be the closer, but another Damaso Marte-like 8 inning setup guy.

Mesa is really happy in Pittsburgh and I think there's a great chance the Pirates can resign him for very reasonable money. Mesa will not command anything on the FA market, and in fact may not even get an offer. With limited options, I'd bet he's back in Pittsburgh for maybe $1.5 million.
Definitely impressed with what Gonzalez has done. If he can maintain good control (a problem in the past) he's a nice setup guy. Don't see him as a closer, by ya never know.

Will he pitch enough down the stretch to make an impact in my holds, K/BB league? Is he the Pirates everyday setup man?

Looks like Torres is still the last bridge to Mesa, but Gonzalez will get his share of work and periodic holds. For those that utilize MR guys, holds or not, he looks like a good grab right now. Give you (healthy) Calero-like numbers.
