Joe Mauer will see a specialist this coming Wednesday for a third opinion on his left knee.
The Twins are hoping that Mauer, who had cartilage removed from the knee earlier this season, will be able to play in a few weeks. However, if there is any risk to the long-term health of their prized prospect, The Twins will shut Mauer down for the rest of the season. Aug. 5 - 7:19 am et
In a few weeks? I think it's time to dump. I've already got Piazza and Estrada. What are you guys gonna do?

Once Joe Mauer gets a third opinion on his left knee, there will likely be two options available to the young catcher.
If his knee is structurally sound, he can take an anti-inflammatory drug such as Vioxx and finish the season as Minnesota's part-time catcher. If his knee is not structurally sound, he will face season-ending surgery. If the condition is considered chronic, Mauer may have to consider a position change. Stay tuned. Aug. 6 - 7:22 am et
Still doesn't look good. A shame that this had to happen to such a young kid. Well, at least it's not happening in his prime. It doesn't help matters that his injury is in his knee and that he's a catcher.
