Wondering what everyone thinks about this? How much control over wins and losses do you think a manager/coach has in each sport. I'm a huge baseball fan but it seems to me that managers don't end up making much of a difference on the scoreboard. Last year there was a big article in ESPN the magazine about McKeon, and he said he thought he was only responsible for 2 or 3 wins/losses each year. I think football coaches make a much bigger impact.

I was waiting for someone to buck the trend. I respectfully disagree. Football has to be the toughest because injuries are more prevalent and you need to manage 45 guys rather than a standard 12 (with less playing) in basketball. Average coaches have won the NBA championship but if you look at the history of the NFL, it is usually a great coach winning the Super Bowl. I would even put hockey coaches over the NBA but that sport doesn't get much love here.
