Managers/Coaches contribution to winning.

Wondering what everyone thinks about this? How much control over wins and losses do you think a manager/coach has in each sport. I'm a huge baseball fan but it seems to me that managers don't end up making much of a difference on the scoreboard. Last year there was a big article in ESPN the magazine about McKeon, and he said he thought he was only responsible for 2 or 3 wins/losses each year. I think football coaches make a much bigger impact.

Football coaches, easy. :-)

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Yes doctor, I am sick.
Sick of those who are spineless.
Sick of those who feel self-entitled.
Sick of those who are hypocrites.
Yes doctor, an army is forming.
Yes doctor, there will be a war.

I was waiting for someone to buck the trend. I respectfully disagree. Football has to be the toughest because injuries are more prevalent and you need to manage 45 guys rather than a standard 12 (with less playing) in basketball. Average coaches have won the NBA championship but if you look at the history of the NFL, it is usually a great coach winning the Super Bowl. I would even put hockey coaches over the NBA but that sport doesn't get much love here.
