Aug 4 Marcus Giles (2B) ATL Giles missed Wednesday's game with a sore right groin muscle. "[My groin] has been a little bit sore [ever] since I got back [from the DL]," Giles told the team's official web site. "It just reached its weakest point last night, when I slipped on the grass." Atlanta trainer Jeff Porter suggested Giles go on the DL to let the injury rest, but Giles said he felt better on Wednesday and would be fine. Expect him to miss a few days and there's a chance he could still land on the DL. Nick Green will get more playing time while he's out.
AJC wrote:Now the concern might be Giles' left groin. He said head trainer Jeff Porter suggested he might need to go back on the disabled list, where Giles recently spent two months recovering from a broken collarbone.
Giles, however, is understandably reluctant to return to the DL, and believes he'll be ready to play tonight's series finale against the Astros.
"But if I know [Cox] and Porter, it might be the first game in Arizona [Friday]," he said.
The groin has bothered him a few weeks, and was aggravated when he slipped trying to field Morgan Ensberg's grounder in the eighth inning of Tuesday's 3-2 loss.
Ensberg was credited with a hit and scored the winning run later in the inning.
"It's been hurting me since I got back [from the disabled list]," Giles said.
He felt the groin tighten when he stole second base in the sixth inning, then again on the play in the eighth.
"It just got a little worse when I booted that ball and slipped," he said. "I should have made that play."
He went 4-for-12 with two doubles, a homer and four RBIs in his first three games after coming off the DL, but was batting .245 with two doubles, a homer and five RBIs in 15 games since. He had 10 strikeouts in 27 at-bats over his last eight games.
Giles said his right groin was sore last week from favoring the left side.
"It's very frustrating," he said. "It seems like if it's not one thing, it's another."
Now that Alomar's gone maybe I should start Scott Hairston for a bit until Giles is back and healthy Last time I spot-started him he went 4-4 with a HR
"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"
"I've got your phone number written, in the back of my Bible."
