I did get those stats from Yahoo. They looked really weird to me that's why I'm trying to figure them out. Looking at Sportsline's stats, I see that for the season he's given up 5 runs in the first but 10 in the second. His pitch count 1-15 must extend into the second inning where he gave up the 8 other runs. I'm hurting my brain trying to figure it out but I think that must mean he is getting out of the first with a low pitch count, right?
I guess it would be more important to look at his 1st inning stats rather than pitch count in this case. That's a little more encouraging because, as was pointed out, his ERA is 2.50 with a 1.00 WHIP, 16 K and 3 BB in 18 innings. In 18 starts he has only allowed runs in the 1st inning twice.
In short, I think he'll make a good closer.
