Hermanson's Bizarre Stats

I did get those stats from Yahoo. They looked really weird to me that's why I'm trying to figure them out. Looking at Sportsline's stats, I see that for the season he's given up 5 runs in the first but 10 in the second. His pitch count 1-15 must extend into the second inning where he gave up the 8 other runs. I'm hurting my brain trying to figure it out but I think that must mean he is getting out of the first with a low pitch count, right?

I guess it would be more important to look at his 1st inning stats rather than pitch count in this case. That's a little more encouraging because, as was pointed out, his ERA is 2.50 with a 1.00 WHIP, 16 K and 3 BB in 18 innings. In 18 starts he has only allowed runs in the 1st inning twice.

In short, I think he'll make a good closer.

What's wrong with using Yahoo for stats? They have pretty much the same ones everyone else has. Actually, they have some extra ones that I haven't seen other sites have. And other sites have stats that Yahoo doesn't have, so it pays to use many different sites for stats.

Hehe, I was just playing. I am not a huge fan of Yahoo's sortable stats pages though. And, I concur; using a variety of sites is the best way to go.

I admit, I don't really use their sortable stats, but some of their player splits and the like can be helpful. Overall, I think I still prefer ESPN.com's over all the rest though.

Low WHIP high ERA usually means that a pitcher gives up hits in bunches. Its the same concept as a pitcher with a high WHIP and low ERA, they spread out the hits/walks not letting teams get real rallies going. Kind of scary to have a closer that gives up big innings.
