When does it become time to punt a catergory and try and make up ground elsewhere? I am extremely frustrated with my starting pitchers right now (my first two pitchers drafted were Halladay and Beckett) and am considering punting the category to try and help out everything else. All of the good middle relivers are available on the ww, (Gordon, Mota, Ryan) and I figure I will be able to upgrade my hitting because I do have some good starters to trade away.
Current standings in my 5x5, 12 team league: I am in 4th overall, but im 2nd to last in wins with 37 (the third to last team has 38, then 2nd through tenth place is tightly bunched between 45-51). I am also in the middle ground for Ks, WHIP, and ERA, although two weeks ago I was three spots higher in each of those categories. Am I wrong in thinking that I cannot make up that big of a gap in wins the rest of the season?
Here is my staff:
Pedro (just traded for him)
Freddy Garcia (also just traded for him)
Josh Beckett
Halladay (DL)
CC Sabathia
Kelvim Escobar
Adam Eaton
John Lackey
Francisco Cordero
Brad Lidge
Any insight to this strategy option? Thanks...

Don't punt wins with that staff........ you still hvae time to make up ground. As long as Halladay makes 4 or 5 starts (personally I hope he rets for the remainder of the season), Beckett stays healthy (big "if"), you should be fine. I wouldn't count on too much from Beckett, but the rest of your staff seems somewhat reliable. Pedro becoming human doesn't help though

"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"

i wouldnt unless youve talked to the other owners in your league and you know you'd get some huge offensive upgrades when you deal away your SP. you can still make up some ground in wins. all oya starters are on winning teams, so u got a chance.

Manny Ramirez....$20 million
Pedro Martinez....$17.5 million
Curt Schilling...$12 million (and a $2 million bonus)
Never hearing a Yankee fan chant 1918 again...priceless.

The other factor to point out is that MRs won't make up ERA & WHIP very quickly at this point of the season. You have 2/3 of a season of innings, and can't make big strides in lowering the ratios with 1/3 of a season of MRs. I'd stick with what you have for now.
