Heads up: Hermanson new Giants closer

Postby TownDrunk » Tue Aug 03, 2004 8:32 pm

Was just announced on KNBR. This is why he was pulled from his start tonight. Lowry will start in his place. Hermanson has closed before in the minors, but I'm not sure how he will do. Just thought I'd give you all a heads up ;-D

One thing to keep in mind though is that Hermanson has said numerous times that he hated being a reliever and he prefers to be a starter.

True, but I think he was referring to the unglamorous long relief role St. Louis had him in. Being closer shows how much faith the team has in him, so I don't think he'd mind as much.

He's way more suited for relief, IMO. He throws strikes, isn't afraid of going after guys, has good stuff, and is a fierce competitor (that's why he never lasts long in games - he expends all his energy too early).

Actually, he was reffering to both the Cardinals as well as his time spent in the minors.

I don't like the move. With Williams on the DL and moving Hermanson to the pen, that's just creating another hole in the rotation. Hermason has arguably been the Giants 2nd best starter this year.
