All season I've been trying to fill my middle infielder position for my team. I have been the hot streak killer for many a shortstop this year (Everett, Clayton, Uribe, etc.). I grabbed Cabrera once I heard about the trade, and felt like a genius after his first at-bat. Now the Rays finally brought up Upton and I'm trying to decide who to grab between the two. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated

Two things tell point at Upton:
1. Cabrera won't run much at all anymore
2. I know its a small sample size, but that 0-5 was ugly.
They'll both hit at the bottom of the order, so.....

Cabrera is a decent big league hitter, Upton is a 19 year old kid. If you are talking for the rest of this season, you would have to be insane to take Upton over Cabrera. Do the names Gary Sheffield and Alex Rodriquez mean anything to you? Two of the best pure hitters of our time and they did pretty much nothing their first call-ups as young shortstops when they were 19 and 20.

Then again Sheffield never made much out of his talent till later in his career. Between his injuries and his down years, he only had 2 really good years before he was 30. But that is a good reason right there also not to be so big on Upton, anything could happen.
But getting back to the question, I'd have to say Cabrera. He is on a loaded offense now, where he should get some good pitches w/ Manny behind him. Upton is a big unknown right now and likely to struggle.
