Nomar Injury Concerns

Postby pomplona's finest » Sun Aug 01, 2004 8:01 pm

Someone mentioned that Nomar didn't appear to like right today. Are these injuries for real, and will they continue to bother him? Some said they were just an excuse to leave Boston but there are still rumors of him getting some rest. Any thoughts about this? I was thinking with all of the hype surrounding him I should sell high. What I am getting at is are these injury concerns valid enough to trade away Nomar?

I think they're very real

According to the Red Sox, Nomar Garciaparra told the team's training staff last week that continuing discomfort in his right Achilles tendon would require him to miss significant chunks of time over the next two months.
A Red Sox source said Nomar's statement concerned management enough to make trading Garciaparra a more pressing matter, and that the Cubs were aware of this development during trade talks. This is probably why Chicago didn't have to give up Matt Clement to get Garciaparra. Let's hope the Cubs are able to keep him healthy. It's a huge day on the North Side as Garciaparra's first start for the Cubs comes in the same game where Greg Maddux goes for win No. 300.

I'm considering dealing him to get someone who I know is going to play every day so I don't have to worry about missing games at short.

He looked fine. He ran down some foul balls, made some offbalanced charging throws, and looked like he wasn't bothered at all.

I believe he's fine. The whole "flare-up" of the Achilles was just a ploy to get him traded.

That is what I am trying to figure out, were his "flare-ups" real or not. I didn't see the Cubs game, I just heard that Nomar looked a little awkard, so I don't know how he was playing exactly. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

He always looks awkward. Whether he's batting, fielding or throwing, he's herkey-jerkey. No injury, least I think anyways.

Like nsulham said, Im guessing the flareup was nothing more than to make sure he got traded without demanding a trade.

Exactly. He knew when the trade deadline was.

Nsulham I read your post about this and it made a lot of sense, but is there anymore recent info to clarify his healthiness?

No offence but I am bit hesitant to believe in a Nomar supporter and Cubs fan...

He looked fine today, made a few nice plays on defense as well.
