Well, looks like Herges didn't finish the job again? Any ideas what SF will do since they didn't acquire anyone trade wise?

Yup, with Herges having a lesser and lesser role.

See ya next year, Giants fans. Sabean has a great rep as a GM, but he deserves a serious hit here. Not resigning Worrell was just plain dumb. He put his eggs in the Nen basket and came up empty. Herges has never been a closer and never will be. Aardsma isn't ready. The Giants HAD to go after Urbina, Mesa or Julio (or someone they thought might be able to close) and apparently didn't.

When you're in the hunt and stand pat with a hand that's not good enough to win, it's bad baseball. This team won't make the playoffs.

I wouldn’t grab any Giants relievers. You can do better.

As far as not getting a closer, I don’t think it would have mattered much. There were simply too many holes to fill. Not only did they need a closer, they also needed another arm for the pen, another bat, and a number 2 starter. Too many holes to fill. Nen’s, Perez’s, and Ledee’s salaries all come off the books this season, leaving them about $14 million to spend. They will probably address those needs with that money.

I think M. Valdez is their future closer, though they might try him as a SP before permanently locating him to closer duties.

What about Christiansen? He has been doing well lately and can hold the fort until the Giants work a deal for a closer through waivers. I'd much rather give the ball to him at this point rather than Herges.

Can't argue with his recent form...10 straight scoreless appearances. But he's really not very good.
