O-Cab now?!? Valuable or not

So coming into this season, Cabrera was considered by many to one of the up and coming SS in the league. Well it's safe to say that he's a tremendous bust so far this year.

Now that he is in the offensive juggernaught in Boston as opposed to Montreal, how do you think this affects his value?

I wanna see where he'll bat in the Red Sox batting order. Or does that just not matter on that team? He's been decent this past month or so. I've been add/dropping SS all year. Right now I have Everett. I plan on dropping him and picking up O.Cab tomorrow. I don't want to have to start him vs Johan. I just hope he stays available until then.

If you have expendable players or an open roster spot then Cabrera is good pickup. Low risk/high reward situation, I wouldn't be surprise for him to perform better with this fresh change of scenery.

Yeah I did have an early season revolving door going on but Jack Wilson has been huge surprise this season. I dumped Adam Eaton and added OCab (just in case the Wilson ride is coming to an end). Eaton was definitely expendable (check my sig)...

Will Cab get back to running in Boston do you think? I wonder if they would move him into that 2 hole over Belhorn? If he bats lower in the order, that may still work out since even the #'s 7,8,9 hitters have excellent bats getting on in front of him....

or am I just being overly optimistic? batting 2nd would be awesome

I think OCab's value gets a major spike here. He should excel hitting at Fenway. Not sure he'll steal as much as the Bosox brain trust thinks that stolen bases are not worth the risk involved, but he should add value on all other categories.

Agreed. A major boost to his stock.

Decent?

He's been OK the last week(0 HRs and 0 SBs, but at least banging some doubles), but has not played well for any extended period of time the entire year. I hope he comes around, but I suspect more than a change of scenery is needed.

When I wrote that I could swear he had a .280 BA over the past month. Anyhow, he's been good this past week.

Don't be so sure of him not running:

Aug 1 After trading for Expos shortstop Orlando Cabrera and speedy Dodgers outfielder Dave Roberts, Red Sox general manager made it clear that the team needs to run more. "It was a flaw on this club," he told the team's official website.
Views: Roberts has 33 steals on the year and Cabrera has 12. We'd love to see the Red Sox get more active on the base paths.

After all, why would they trade for 2 speedsters if not to let them do what they do best?

Also, you were right, he did bat .280 in July and not .265
An unanswered question is better than an unquestioned answer

Thanks for the info Gruber, I didn't see the point in the Sox trading for Roberts if he wasn't going to run. I guess Dave Roberts' value isn't completely lost after all.
