I don't think it much mattered who NY got in return. No way George would keep a pitcher who can't beat Boston.
Blessed are the cheesemakers.

balieve it or not, its a good deal for the Yankees. im not sure but i also think that Contreras contract is bigger. plus Loiza has been consistantly mediocre, which is all they'd need with that offenseand is def a LOT more than what you could say about Contreras.
i dont like this deal. i liked the Sox beating up on Contreras.
Manny Ramirez....$20 million
Pedro Martinez....$17.5 million
Curt Schilling...$12 million (and a $2 million bonus)
Never hearing a Yankee fan chant 1918 again...priceless.

Just not happy that it feels like it was a trade made just for the sake of making a trade. Loaiza could be servicable especially down the stretch in the regular season but unless things are really bad, I hope he doesn't make the postseason rotation.
The best news for Yankees fans was Kevin Brown last night who was spectacular. Hopefully, he feels good today and is ready to get back on track. Now just need Mussina to get healthy. Postseason rotation should be Vazquez/Brown/Mussina/Hernandez. Lieber/Loaiza only if one of those can't go.

As long as the Yanks don't end up paying for both of their salaries it is a good move. It is hard to believe that Loaiza will pitch well but he could do as good or better than Contreras.

Will Contreras be a starter for the White Sox?

Okay I think the Yanks lose since they pay all salaries, but does it really matter? They have the money, so I guess it comes down to who is better Loaiza or Contreras. I think for now at least the Yanks don't have to deal with the wild inconsistencies from Contreras.

Not sure where you're seeing that we pay all salaries. I read that we sent Contreras and cash for Loaiza but did not read that we pay all salaries. Anyway, hopefully that's not the case.
Having thought things over a little more, I'm starting to warm up to the trade.....a little. No doubt Contreras has been a horrible bust so far and the more I thought about it, I start dwelling on how much I hate watching him on the mound. He's so SLOOOOOOW and looks like he's afraid to pitch to the hitters and worse, he can't seem to beat Boston and no Yankees pitcher is going to make the grade if he has that problem. But I guess my biggest concern is that this guy appeared to have real potential. Would hate to see him all of a sudden figure things out over there.
