Baseball reference has Grich's fielding percentage at 2B at .984 (and overall at .983). Boone's is listed at .986 through the 2002 season (at 2B and overall)......

I think what is throwing everyone off is that Alomar, Boone and the rest of these players all spent some time in the NL. My reference says as a second baseman Grich was the best. He also played some short and third in his career.

The part about Alomar and Boone is true, and that probably is what confused soem people....however your hint that his percentage was .986 threw me, as I did look up Grich and saw that his percentage was .984 - he never played in the NL, so I don't know which percentage is right....or was the .986 hint a typo?

I have Grich listed at .984, Alomar listed at .984 and Boone listed at .986 all for only the position of 2nd base. However, if you are talking about 2nd baseman who played in the A.L. only (as opposed to all A.L. second basemen), Grich is probably the one. I am awaiting further verification of this from another source. I will keep you updated
