Bowa next to go?

Postby perlick29 » Fri Jul 30, 2004 10:45 pm

About a week and a half before Jimy Williams got fired I let people know Gammons said he would definitly be gone after the ASB and he was.

Now I'm hearing Bowa is next, but the sad part is they may replace him with [gulp] charlie manuel?

OH NOOOOO! I'm not a philly fan but if you own anyone in the rotation or bullpen you are not safe.

Rumor has it that the phils would replace a real hard-nose guy(Bowa) with a softer guy (manuel) to change the spirits of the team. We'll see how this plays out.

Any thoughts?

Woah, I knew something sounded funny about what I wrote.

It's Charlie Manuel that they might replace him like I said, and I got him confused with Jerry Manuel, who many of us despised.

I don't really know what kind of impact Charlie Manuel would have on the Phils. He used to coach the tribe.

Any thoughts?

It's classic for teams to switch from a hard-ass manager to a "player's manager." Billy Martin used to flip-flop with easy-going managers for the Yankees in the 70's and 80's. The M's got rid of hard-ass Lou Piniella for the completely-unemotional Bob Melvin.

I think it's long overdue for Bowa to get canned. Just a change in managers could spark the team a bit.
Roger Angell: I was talking with Bob Gibson and I said: 'Are you always this competitive?' He said: 'Oh, I think so. I got a three-year old daughter, and I've played about 500 games of tic-tac-toe with her and she hasn't beat me yet.'

About Lou Pinella, notice how after he left the Mariners they got bad while Tampa Bay got much better. Hmmm... :-?

I'm not sure that had to do as much with Piniella as it did what talent was and is on the field in the place Piniella left and the place he's in now.

As a M fan, I will unabashedly say that Sweet Lou is DA MAN.
Yes, I was, uh... I was thinking about ordering the tape, the videotape... about the college girls and the... the wild... the wildness. They're going wild or something? Somebody told me... about going wild.

I couldn't agree more. I'm in a very small minority here but I like Bowa. He may have overstayed his welcome at Philly but I like managers like him.

Agreed. Bowa is one bullet short of going postal and he doesn't give his team the confidence they need. He's a terrible leader.

Lou on the other hand can convince anyone that they can win. There's not too many coaches I'd put ahead of Lou right now.
