remember when he won like 20 games or something for the...i think cardinals. where have the kent bottenfields gone? names that pop into my head include mike hampton and jose lima. but where have the "come out of nowhere 20 game winners" gone? i cant think of any in the past couple of years, but then again my memory sucks. any thoughts on why there havent been many come out of nowhere sp's? or why there are so many come out of nowhere position players now ie michael young, jose guillen, podsednik, jd drew, etc

I remember Bottenfield. If I remember correctly didnt we trade him to Phillie? But I'm not sure exactly what your point is////

Marquis and Carpenter can come close to winning 20 and they sort of came out of nowhere.

esteban loaiza definitely came out of nowhere to win 20 last year. he was signed to a minor league contract and not even guaranteed a spot on the team.
