Are you kidding me - BOTH of them? What did they give up? I'm curious as I'm a Mets fan ... hopefully not too much....

Assuming this is true.

The Mets just sacrificed a big part of their future. They gave up Kazmir and Jose Diaz for Zambrano and Batista (from the Royals), Wigginton, and Peterson for Benson.

Wait, Zambrano as in Victor Zambrano? SWEET!!! So who're we (the Devil Rays) getting out of the deal? If it's Kazmir, I'm going to go give a toast to Lamar.

Denny Bautista from the Royals, the pitcher they got from Baltimore? How did he get involved, and what did KC get? Maybe I'm missing something, but this seems absoluely hideous.

Postby Absolutely Adequate » Fri Jul 30, 2004 6:26 pm

The Mets pulled the trigger on two trades this afternoon, obtaining Tampa Bay pitcher Victor Zambrano and Pittsburgh pitcher Kris Benson, the Daily News has learned.

The cost was high. The Mets shipped top pitching prospect Scott Kazmir and Double-A pitcher Jose Diaz to Tampa Bay for Zambrano and Triple-A pitcher Bartolome Fortunato.

They traded Ty Wigginton and pitching prospect Matt Peterson to Pittsburgh and catching prospect Justin Huber to Kansas City in a three-way deal. The Mets will also receive Jeff Keppinger.

Zambrano or Benson is expected to start Saturday against the Braves at Turner Field.

Niether of these trades have been confirmed yet.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
