BJ Upton Callup This Sunday

Postby Patella Tendon » Fri Jul 30, 2004 12:36 pm

The Tampa Tribune reports that B.J. Upton (SS) TB could be recalled as soon as Sunday. In more bizarre news, the report stated that Upton might be about to sign a long-term contract, possibly for as many as nine years. It would be unprecedented for a team to give an already-signed player a long-term contract before he made his major league debut.

Thanks Patella, now let's hope the player with the #1 priority doesn't know what he's doing.

Thank god. I desperately need some infield relief! Hehe I steadily rose up the waiver priorities... :-B

Depending on when A-Rod serves his suspension (my league is a weekly league) I'm going to need a SS to plug in.

Would you guys take Upton over any of these waiver SS?

Cabrera
Crosby
Matsui

Thanks boys :-)

I wouldn't rush on Upton unless it is a keeper league. O Cab is on a new team now and I would pick him up to fill in for awhile. Kaz is hitting better lately so he isnt' a bad choice either. Of course if you are searching for a huge reward and are willing to make a gamble you could pick up Upton and hope he suceeds immediately.

You now what, I think I had a dream about this, I have vague memories.... :-?

I don't know that was weird.

I hope he doesn't get called up yet!

I play in a keeper league with minor league players. Upton is on my minor league roster, but I can only keep him on my minor league roster for next year if he has less than 130 ABs this year. Assuming he plays 50 out of the 60 games remaing, he'll be on pace for about 180-200 ABs.

We only get to keep 6 players for next year and look at the list I have to choose from:

Wood, Oswalt, Wagner, Derek Lee, Posada, Manny Ramirez, B. Boone, Teixeira, and Nevin. This is a 15 team league, so those are some great players to keep.

I'm just think about my team with 6 of those players and some of my minor leaguers playing next year: Upton and Gathright

My CI's are a choice of C Guzman or Brian Roberts

I have made this move and plan of playing Upton right away because of the following news on Roberts.

Orioles manager Lee Mazilli told the Baltimore Sun that it was safe to assume that Jerry Hairston would start to get more playing time at second base if the team fails to trade either Brian Roberts (2B) Bal or Hairston. Hairston has seen a lot of time in the outfield, and if he moves back to second base on a more regular basis, Roberts would likely be on the bench or perhaps the DH.

Looks like roberts should be as good as gone on everyones elses rosters too.
