A spokesman for Yankees principal owner George Steinbrenner said the team would pay for the entire cost of the new park, and city and state government would pay for improving the infrastructure around the stadium in the borough of the Bronx.
Of course George wants to pay for it, he gets to report it as an expense per the CBA. That means less profitsharing with the other owners. Nice loophole, you tightwads.
All the same, it feels soulless to see another one of the grand dames of baseball go under the wrecking ball. I guess Tiger Stadium should have been a sign of things to come.
