Big Rumor: Beltran to Giants in three way deal

This rumor was just reported on our local sports radio station, 680 am KNBR. This is how it breaks down:

To Giants: Beltran

To Astros: Matt Cain and Adrian Gonzalez

To Marlins: Yorvit Torrealba

Now, this is just a rumor and it was reported on sports radio, so take it for what it's worth

I would have thought that Brian Sabean had his hands full traveling to watch Urbina throw.

It should be noted that KNBR has been supporting Sabean in his defense from the "Lunatic Fringe" (Sabean and assistant GM, Ned Colletti, are regular guests on KNBR), so it would surprise me if KNBR would jump on top of a bunch of fluff that would put Sabean in peril.

Umm... A. Gonzalez was traded last year to the Rangers. If that's who they said then this looks like a pretty false trade rumor.

That is correct. Adrian Gonzalez is with the Rangers. Jason Stokes is the Marlins big 1b prospect.

You're right, Gonzalez was traded to the Rangers. And it's now being reported that that isn't the player going to be coming from Florida.

However, the crux of this rumor does make some sense. If the Astros are out, they’re going to have to cut bait with Beltran. Cain is one of the top pitching prospects in the minors. The Marlins have been looking for a young catcher for a while now, and the Giants have two of them in Yorvit and A.J. And Beltran would immediately improve the Giants offense and defense.

wow, i hope this isn't true. Beltran is overrated. What we really need is a closer. Anybody who watched the game last night knows that's more of a problem than our OF.

edit: also, we'd take on $9M in salary. if we had that sitting around, we should have just signed vlad.
