Yes, he was.
Before the draft I said he would be my starting catcher and I drafted him from the start. I had him ranked 8th best before the season started behind let's see if I remember:
Posada, Piazza, Javy, Pudge, Craig Wilson, Lecroy, and Kendall.
I think it was Tek and somebody else that came right after him to round out the top ten.

Victor Martinez was on the radar going into the second half of the 2003 season. He had been touted as a top catching prospect going into the 2003 season. Nonetheless with his poor play in 2003, I avoided him in my keeper draft (despite knowlegde that he has historically taken a bit of time to adjust to each level ).

I didn't draft them, but I've managed to pick up Victor Martinez, Sean Casey, Vinny Castilla, Jeromy Burnitz and Carlos Guillen as free agents. I did draft Melvin Mora in the 17th round and Michael Young in the 21st. I've been pretty happy with them.
