well, hlds, just like W's and SV's is a pretty "crap-shooty" stat... Todd Jones, whose ERA for the past three years is prolly around 5.5 has 23 holds while Marte, one of the "best" MR's, has 13. :-[

I do not like how a team's balance could be harmed if their top holder becomes a closer. Losing an edge over on of your opponents because one of your players has improved (at least in team status) seems silly.

I really like holds as a cat...it adds depth to the league....and more research...when you start adding middle relief cats...it would probably be a good idea to expand your rosters a spot or two... :-)

Holds, schmolds. I can live without 'em. I've got enough to do rather than analyzing & fine-tuning by another stat.

Always thought Total Bases would be pretty cool as an offensive category, though....

I'm playing holds for the first time in a Yahoo midseason league. In a way, its cool that a top MR can have more value than an 'back-of-the-rotation' starter. My only complaint is that Yahoo's boxes and 'Bigleaguers' stat pages, don't list holds.

Holds and saves are the exact same thing.
They just happen a different "times" in a game.
The arguement to get rid of holds because ..

"People say they're too unpredictable, guys can get holds and still get bombed in the game.."

is exactly the same for saves ...

holds is sooooo easy to win, I can't figure out why guys get frustrated with it. Just grab a lefty specialist on a good team, very very late in the draft. They almost never give up the lead and will give you holds even when the team take the loss.

That happened to me with Lidge and left me with one guy for Holds. Every week I get smoked in that category.

I think Holds is a good stat and agree with DHC that you should expand your rosters a bit if you add them.
