B.J. Ryan

What's the cafe take on this guy? I've been thinking of dealing Wolf for him. Non holds league, although Ryan has a chance to close of Julio is traded. I need the ratio help too. I threw out the offer to the guy and he originally declined, but is thinking it over again.

What worries me about Ryan is that he's already surpassed his highest single season ip total. He's never been a stud until this year either...

So will he run out of gas or keep it up?

As I've said before, I'm not sure about Ryan....Some sources say he will take over the closer role if Julio is traded. Then other sources are saying, he might be the one traded. The Braves have shown interest in him.....Time will tell

I really cant see many teams being very interested in Jorge Julio, so i would say Ryan closing for Baltimore is a very slim chance. Ryan would be a great addition to any contending team, though he would probably only close if he went to SF.

Basically, i dont see Ryan getting more than a couple saves the rest of the season. Its possible, but very unlikey. However, that doesnt mean that Ryan wont be valuable to a fantasy team.

Baseball Prospectus predicted him to be trade bait before the season started and there is no reason to think he won't be now.

But honestly Kolb, in the choice between Wolf and Ryan, I'll take Wolf. He's poised to have a nice second half, now that he has more rest due to injury, while last year he was exhausted. Tonight's QS against a team that kills him was a good sign.

Now, BJ has pitched very well this year no doubt. But last year he played Jekyll and Hyde all year, and while it's clear he's matured, I wouldn't put an August-September fade past him, since if he doesn't become the closer he will have tossed a lot of innings.

I could be wrong, just my 1/50th of a dollar.

after Wolf's performance tonight I'm shying away from the idea too. It doesn't help that my only MR right now Damaso Marte just got shellacked. It was a good reminder of how volitile these guys can be.
