i agree. he could very well stay where he is. in order to deal for him you gotta have the green/cap space, be willing to give him a contract extension, and be on one of the teams on his "approved" list. AND have major-league ready prospects.

not many teams fit that bill.

Yankees have everything but the prospects. the D'Backs have been scouting the Yankees farm system and they dont like anything they see in AA and AAA. they like a couple of single-A guys but thats not gonna be enough. and unless they can involve another team to supply the prospects. the Yankees chances of getting him are slim. the D'Backs are not in a hurry to deal the face of their franchise unless they get some GOOD value in return. trading away the Unit helps 'em build for the future but theyre just as happy having him draw the crowds. they also feel that they can theoretically "contend" next season in what will be a weak division.

the Halos i think have a slightly better chance. they have the prospects the D'Backs are looking for and some money that they can throw at the Unit. as far as what ive seen this preseason, Arte Moreno's not afraid to spend. i dunno how Colon returning to form is gonna affect the Angels decision to go for him or not.

Depending on who you listen to, some articles say Randy's agent will strong-arm Colangelo into making a deal to send him to NY. The same articles say one AZ scout is impressed with some of the Yankees prospects and plans to give them a good report.

Whatever the case, the fact remains that IF the Yankees somehow pull a trade for RJ out of their ass, it'll be a 5-for-1 deal, most likely including Navarro, Cano, Halsey and whatever else marginable prospects they have. Meaning NY would have NO semblance of a farm system anytime soon.

If I had to guess I would say he stays put in AZ.

I'll go with a darkhorse here and say the Rangers.

Sounds nuts, but here's the deal:

1. The Rangers will get another starter before the trade deadline is up and they know that a top flight starter like RJ would most likely seal the division up for them. Not to mention his impact in the playoffs.

2. Contrary to popular belief, the Rangers are not hard strapped for cash plus they just sold the naming rights to the Ballpark in Arlington so there is more than enough availiable cash to sign a big name like RJ to an extension.

3. RJ wants to win and is fed up with zero run support. Run support is definitely not a problem in Texas. With all the Angels talk, he is well aware that if he joins the Angels, they will have to catch the Rangers (currently 5 games back), so why not just join the Rangers instead?

4. There's always a trade every year that comes out of the blue that hardly anyone heard so much as a rumor about prior to it happening, so this could very well be the big one this year.

Now all of that makes way too much sense for it to actually happen, but if by some chance it does, you heard it here first.
