I was surprised he said anything at all ... I can't see him gaining any advantage by such a disclosure ... particularly two years in advance. I'd have kept it to myself.

You know how that played out. He was disgusted after the loss to Montreal, made a dumb remark and the NY media took it and ran.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
Did you see the highlights? I think I could have hit that crap Todd was soft-tossing over the plate.

I'd still take him ..
I remember you telling me that....Glad I went with JD.....
I just ruptured my achilles tendon in February. Knowing what I'm going through right now I'm amazed at any athlete who can come back and play after that. I don't blame him for feeling that way at times. Hopefully just a phase he's going through right now. I know Mets are not happy with him for staying that because it decreases his trade value.
An NL scout said the Mets are shopping Cliff Floyd, who has talked about requesting a trade to an AL team in the offseason if he remains bothered by his Achilles' tendon.
The Mets are upset that Floyd spoke candidly about his health yesterday, and his possible intention to retire at 33 when his contract expires in 2006. Apparently they were already shopping him and his comments could damage his trade value. Jul. 28 - 7:13 am et
A trade would make sense...

Floyd also said if he's still hurting by spring training that he will make a request to J.D. to be traded to an AL team so that he can become a DH. Maybe a fit for TB since that's where he wants to play?
I don't think Floyd's injury history is a secret to anyone and it's been obvious that he'd end up in the AL DHing if he continued to play. I am not sure how much trade value Floyd has but I don't think this diminishes it any. It's not like this new news revealed anything we didn't already know.
If the Mets plan to trade him I hope they do it this season prior to the trade deadline and strike while the iron his hot. They'll never get as much for him as they can right now IMO.

I'm a Mets fan, obviously, but I'd like to see them deal Floyd, Cameron, Glavine and Leiter. Get their salaries off the book and start over. I'd also release Stanton and Franco in a heartbeat.

I agree with everyone except Cameron. I hate to see Floyd go but if he doesn't want to play in the NL and we get some talent in return I'm all for it. The Mets need to cash in on Glavine and Leiter now unfortunately I have hunch that they won't. I would trade Stanton for a bag of peanuts. Have you see his inherited runners scored percentage? Ugh. Franco needs to go into the front office.
I can deal with Cameron's bat. We need a good CF to patrol Shea.
