Floyd returned to Montreal on Monday, the place where his career began, and said that he planned to retire in two years, after the 2006 season, when his four-year, $26 million contract will expire. Floyd will be only 33, having played in fewer major league games than most of his peers, but he has already sustained enough injuries to last a career.
"My body is beat up," said Floyd, who has had operations on his left knee, his right wrist and his right foot, and has missed a month of this season with a strained quadriceps. "I want to go out there. I want to play because I really love the game. But I only know what I feel. At this point, two years can't come fast enough."
Not terrible news. I love Floyd but seriously doubt he would have been in the Mets plans beyond 2006.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
He's a good guy and a good, talented player but I'm not surprised with this news. He's been beat up his whole career. Hopefully he can be productive until he retires though

Cliff is worn out, I actually was kinda surprised that he said he would play until 2006. Why should he if he doesnt' even like have the passion for it anymore?
