They were just talking on local radio here in Wisconsin to a guy that writes for a Minnesota paper, and he said that the trade will not happen because when the Pirates deal Benson, Kendall has to be part of the deal because they need to dump his salary.

He went on to say that form what he's heard a deal will be made with the Marlins. They have alot of interest in Benson with Burnett and Beckett's injury status. They also have alot of interest in Kendall.

I have no idea how legit this guy was.

Didn't the Pirates try to do the same thing when they traded Giles? Add on Kendall and no one wants to take the deal. He is a good player but that contract is crazy. My guess is Kendall stays where he is.

I was also kinda surprised they turned down the Angels offer of Kotchman.

You are correct. They always try to package Kendall with every trade in an attempt to unload the contract. There has been rumors that FLA wants a catcher and Kendall's name has been floated around. But I agree with you, I think that Kendall stays.

I think Kotchman would be the best trade of the rumors that I have heard. The word here is that one of the offers made, they like, but they are going to see if they can get more.

theyre not going to get rid of Kendall's contract AND get a good prospect.. thats too good to be true. ;-) i think the Pirates would get a real good deal if theyre able to unload Kendall's contract even if they dont get any significant value back in return.

Anyone remember that Jason Shmidt was a Pirate once too. Why do we gotta trade all of our potentially great pitchers!!! For crap like this...

Benson is no Jason Schmidt. :-D

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

No way that Mientkiewicz is the main part of the deal. Not after the Pirates insisting they get top prospects. I had head Cuddyer and Restovich's names floated around. I would think one if not BOTH of them would have to be included in the deal as well.

i think the Twins will need Cuddyer next year. if i was the Pirates GM and i could get Meinkewicz and even a half-decent single-A prospect, id do it in a heartbeat. and send the Twins GM extra flowers. :-]
