Assuming they both keep up their current pace and neither tires or succumbs to injury, which of these is a better keeper for the future?

Peavy plays for a better team in a pitcher's park, but the Pirates seem to be on the rise too. Seems to me Peavy may get a few more wins and post a slightly better ERA, but Perez may get more K's and have a better WHIP.

Which one?

I'd call it a draw, but Peavy has that out of nowhere DL stint on his 2004 resume. Oliver Perez seems to K about 10 batters a start. And he has gone deeper into games than Peavy. Pitching a complete game shutout in Coors helps a bit too.

Doh, I was doing this season! I will leave that up for fun.

They are neck and neck in my mind. You cannot go wrong with either of them. Perez probably has a slightly higher ceiling, while Peavy has a slightly longer track record. A fan of power pitchers, I may go for Oliver by a hair.

I will go with Peavy for the long haul although Perez should be a star in the future as well. I just see the Pirates not being able to keep him when his contract is up and he will be moved out again, Peavy should and will probably stay in SD for a long time. And remember I think the Pads knew that Peavy was the better one to hold onto when they had to make a decision about who to trade for B Giles a year ago. That's just my opinion.

the Pirates farm system is considered to be one of the best in all of baseball... im gonna go with Perez by a tiny bit. ;-D

Analyze league standings. Where do you need the most help and can best gain ground -- more Ks or lower ERA?

Perez for more Ks, Peavy for lower ERA.

Ws figure to be even. Perez has a better WHIP 1.10 vs. 1.34

ive got em both on my squad and have seen them both pitch a couple of times... i like em both but if i had to chose peavy would be packin his bags

Honestly I don't think the Pirates farm system is that good ... def not a top farm system in my mind. They do have some good prospects, but most all of them are pitchers. So I don't see that helping Perez out in the future.

They don't have any impact hitters in their system, future looks bad for their offense.

I like'em both too. Sandiego does look like a better team than the Pirates...Tough call try to get both! If I had to chose it would be Perez. B-)
