On June 14, 2002 In San Diego, the Seattle Mariners released veteran outfielder Eugene Kingsale, the Padres immediately grabbed him. No one informed any Mariners that Kingsale had changed teams. After the Mariners took the field for warm–ups, several players ran back to tell the coaching staff that Kingsale had changed teams and is wearing a Padres uniform.
