[TRADE] Mets get Benson/Kendal for Wiggy/Phillips/Diaz

Postby rmeesig » Wed Jul 21, 2004 3:55 pm

WFAN is reporting that Benson and Kendall have been traded to the mets for wigginton, philips and some minor leaguer named Diaz.

Oh, no.

It's either Jose or Victor Diaz. Actually, one of two Jose's.

Kendall is an overrated, overpaid catcher, and Benson's been on and off all career.

Wigginton I'm fine with moving because of Wright's callup.

Diaz depending on which one.

(Jason, I assume) Phillips I've always liked. Shame.

Will Kendall be the starting catcher? I guess they'll put Piazza at 1st for good now and let Kendall do the catching, huh?

Jose is basically worthless,
it has to be victor.

the pirates were asking the twins for morneau or cuddyer,
so it wouldn't make much sense for it to be joselo.

Not a bad trade for either team... not a very good one either :-/

I wonder how much of Kendalls contract PIT has to pay, if any...

Opens the door for Wright to stay, is there even another option at 3rd if he starts slow out of the gate?

This trade has been rumored for the last 3 days but I haven't heard that it's a done deal either. Taking on part of Kendall's contract was the sticking point.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

It was around 11:20 AM or so...Bucs will be taking on some of Kendall's contract.

This doesn't make sense. If Pittsburgh wouldn't take Wiggington straight up for Benson...how does throwing in Phillips and a Minor Leaguer >= Kendall. Obviously, if NY has to pay most of Kendall's contract, then it would make sense...but otherwise this is a terrible trade for Pittsburgh.
