Everyone thinks he is going to be traded. I totally disagree. He is cheap, has worked well and everyone else in the league is scared of him. The Pirates supposedly want a young stud in the making for him, so I highly doubt he goes anywhere.
Tex is mashing the ball and has 1B and 3B eligibility don't make that trade. I have Mesa and he has been solid but to trade for him now while his statutus is in question is too risky.
I agree with the two post above mine. As a Mesa owner, he has been very solid. He's has a bad rep and I think it'll be about 50-50 that he'll be traded.

I think Mesa is a very good bet to be dealt, and not necessarily to a situation where he'd close. Unlike Benson, the Pirates wouldn't need as much to pull the trigger on a Mesa deal. He isn't likely to be back with them next year at any rate, so in his case they'll take what they can get. Naturally, his value remains constant if he goes to SF, but he is just as likely to go to a team that wants a late inning setup guy.

If Dave Littlefield gets the right deal, Mesa will be out of here. It'll be another in the line of veteran resurgents that the Pirates trot out and then send to other teams for prospects. He is cheap, so keeping him for the year wouldn't be a bad idea for the Pirates - but the future is more important.
