I was born in Italy, which isn't really as far away as you think. I was only twenty when I reached the majors, introducing myself by saying, "So this is the great American League. I'll hit .400." Apart from being a ballplayer, I was also a boxer, but I had to give that up after talk of rigged bouts. Oh well, I kept fighting anyway, including brawling with police in Hollywood.
