Will he even be back for next year? Doubt it.
I'm back. Sorta.

The reason Gonzalez is opting for the surgery now is so he can be ready to play next spring. The recovery period for a position player is far less than for a pitcher.

I think the plan is to be ready for next year. Isn't that why he's opting to do it now instead of at the end of the year?

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

That was the plan I heard. He wants to be healthy for next year where the D'Backs can regain some hope. ;-7

Last I heard he is shutting down the first week of August. And yes, he will be ready for Spring '05 ....

more reason for randy johnson to want a change of scenery?

i understand gonzo's reason for opting for surgery now, but it seems as if arizona is throwing in the towel. Look for trade rumors to soar.

Luis Terrero probably takes his spot. Someone to keep an eye on in very deep leagues

Maybe so, but it looks to me that RJ may stay. The only team in the hunt with the prospects is Anaheim. Plus, Colangelo just left for a vacation in Italy, so I don't anticipate anything happening anytime soon.

I just saw that on SC now. Is there any reason why he wouldn't just do it now instead of waiting for the 31st?? It's not like they are in the race or anything. :-)
