I am in a slump right now in one-three leagues. I am wondering if it is how I am playing the game is whats hurting me. I play by hunches (sp), but sometimes I play by stats.

Hunch: Colon last night against the Red Sox (I started him)
Stat: Delgado is batting .043 (I bench him)

I am asking the cafe: How do you play? Is there a 3rd way to play? If everyone answers then we all might have better seaons.

I play by the hunch.

BTW: If you do both, thats cool too.

May I ask what exactly was your hunch on starting Colon last night?

To answer your question though, I basically rely on stats. I play who's hot and bench who's not. Looking at monthly split stats are great for this. I like to look at things such as OPS and BA for batters and WHIP, BAA, and of course ERA for pitchers.

The sox were struggling and Colon pitched well over his last 2 starts. Also Colon just got 3 days off to think about being an Ace.

4 innings, 7 ER on 7/3 = pitched well? Sorry to second guess you and I'm happy for you that he won last night but it was a risky start, good win for you last night nonetheless. ;-D

well, look at his stats from the last game. 7 ip, 5 hits, 4 runs, 4 k's

With hitters, I look at the last 30 days to pick-up hitters, and ,when its a close call, who to start, I look at the last 7 days.

For pitchers I try to overstaff by 2 so that I don't start in Coors or against the top hitting teams and its 95% stats and 20% gut feeling (little Yogi math there ;-7
