The best player in baseball

I'd go with A-Rod right now. He has quietly been solid in his transition from Texas to the largest spotlight in baseball, all while changing positions also.

He doesn't have the plate presence Barry has, but he is much better defensively, so the edge goes to him IMO.

I agree with you up until the last point. Once Bonds can out-homer his entire league, then I'll give it consideration. Otherwise, Ruth is still #1 on my list.

Probably going more into a baseball history style conversation here but what the heck, might as well. There is one very interesting statistic about the era/power difference. The top three ops+ years for Ruth (255, 239, 239) and Bonds (275, 262, 231). The last four years of Bond's career has been as impressive to me as any of Ruth's power years. The middle portion of his career was as impressive as any of Mays' years. He is the most complete offensive/defensive player ever IMO. Ruth may still get the nod simply from the pitching aspect of his game, but I am really starting to think Barry has surpassed him.

It happens occasionally, though it would probably be easier just to abandon this screen name and choose a new one. But if you want to change it, then go to the suggestions forum (I think that's where I've seen it done in the past) and ask a moderator.

But, again, it would probably be 100 times easier just to abandon this name and start from scratch.
