Thoughts on Halladay

Postby thehat » Sat Jul 17, 2004 12:37 am

Warning signs are in abundance for this guy. One DL journey already, and it's no secret that there's something still wrong with the shoulder. In fact, the Texas announcers were speculating tonight that some touch up work will be needed off season.

Halladay was not good (again) tonight. There was no snap on the breaker, and without that pitch working, he's ordinary. I'll cut him a bit of slack as he looked absolutely gassed...and that may have been the heat sapping his energy. But while admitting that may have been a factor, I think it goes beyond that. Halladay pitched more than 500 IP in 2002-03 and I suspect he may be damaged goods at this juncture. Bottom line is that he wasn't simply hit hard tonight...he was laboring throughout and this is not a positive indicator.

I'm sure this thread will generate the usual number of "buy low" replies, but I think he's a bad buy at almost any price right now.

(Just noticed there was another thread involving both Halladay and Vazquez. Sorry for the duplicate.)

The Hat's assessment is totally correct ;-D

Roy Halladay admitted tonight that his shoulder still isn't completely right.
"There isn't any pain, it's hard to say what I'm going through right now," Halladay said. "My pitches don't have the life like they did before. It feels tired at times, it doesn't feel serious." It still appears that Halladay will make his next scheduled start Wednesday. "I don't know what the best thing to do is right now," he said. "We'll just play it by ear and see how things play out. I'm not always 100 percent out there."

I'm with you he's a bad buy. In fact I have him and I feel guilty about trying to get rid of him. However if he manages to pitch a gem sometime this month I'll be the first person trying to dump him off on someone as the posts about halladay being back get started.
