Cracking Your Knuckles

Postby pomplona's finest » Sat Jul 17, 2004 12:17 am

Is it true that if you crack your knuckles too much it will lead to arthritis and hand pains when you are older? I am a knuckle cracking addict and I want to know how serious at all the effects would be in the future.

No, its an old wives tale. There is a small connection though, some people who feel the need to crack their knuckles already have an early version of arthritis. Pooping the joints won't inflame it or create it, but sometimes might be a sign it is already there.

Hehe don't get too paranoid, it somewhat depends on why you crack you knuckles. If you do it out of habit then there probably isn't much to it. If you pop them because they often hurt or ache then it might be something to get looked at. I did a report on a wives tales in high school because I was worried about this exact same thing. I talked to a couple of specialist and they both said its nothing really to sweat over.

there is nothing wrong with it. Its just pressure being released from your joints. you should pull on the finders rather than pushing down on them. Its better for the finger

I don't crack my knuckles. I do, however, pop a few fingers into place now and then. Old wrestling injury.

Now I can poop my joints without worrying :-°

But seriously, I've cracked my knuckles for as long as I can remember. I have to, they feel so restricted and tight. It's like stretching before you play sports. Recently, I've been doing alot of tough work (shovelling TONS of rocks, literally, for a ladndscaping company) and when I wake up, both of my middle fingers and sometimes other fingers hurt so much I can't even bend them at a 45 degree angle. At first I thought it was because I crack my knuckles so much, but apparently it wasn't :-? By the end of the day they feel fine though. I'll stop worrying about it now though.

sunnava! Umm :-? I meant that, its slang for staying at a bar until it closes. Some people say closing the bar, we say pooping the joint. I still contend pooping the joint will NOT cause arthritis. :*)
