Any word on Frank Thomas?

I've heard that were supposed to know whether he's done for the season or not sometime soon. Any inside scoop anybody know about?

If he's down for the count (and I suspect that to be the case) I'm thinking about picking up either Charles Thomas or go pitching with Ricardo Rodriguez. I'm probably in greater need of pitching but not by much. Does anyone have a strong opinion one way or the other about how these guys are currently performing?

Frank Thomas, 1B, White Sox.

The Chicago Tribune reports the White Sox are privately making plans for playing the rest of the season without Thomas. Thomas went on the disabled list last week with an ankle injury, and the team will see how it responds to treatment before deciding on season-ending surgery. Magglio Ordonez's return from torn knee cartilage coincided with Thomas' departure, so the team's offense shouldn't suffer too much.

That said, expect Joe Borchard to get an extended look in Thomas' absence. Borchard, who was recently called up from Triple-A Charlotte, once was a promising NFL prospect, but he passed up a chance to play on Sundays for a shot at the big leagues. So far, he hasn't made an impact in the majors, but he has shown power in the minors. On Thursday night, Borchard, a switch hitter, started in right field against Oakland righthander Rich Harden, with Ordonez at DH.

Even if he does come back he will still have bone chips. I am assuming those bone chips were why he was so non productive right before he hit the DL, so he probably will not be the same fat Frank you grew to love at the beginning of the season.

While watching the game today Hawk read off a statement from the team. It said that Thomas was still feeling some discomfort in his ankle and had a bone scan performed. It found a stress fraction and he will be out about 8 weeks.

it's a broken foot...so no surgery, but out 8 weeks. thank goodness Dmitri picked up 1B elegibility during interleague!
