I'd definitely take Gordon first out of that list. My reasoning is the fact that Rivera is more likely to get injured than Gagne IMO, so you might just have yourself one of the most valuable closers in the league should such a thing happen.

You're basically right slomo, but if you're looking for a MR to become closer, I think B.J. Ryan is probably your best chance, since Julio has been terrible all season.

But if you're just looking for a good MR, who can get holds, then I think Mota and Gordon are the best men....

julio has not been terrible, he has converted a good amount of save chances, I think he is 12 for 15, and his era in those chances is reasonable.

I wouldn't call this dominant....

He has 12 SV, 2BS, (1-2) 4.58 ERA, 1.53 WHIP along with 20BB and 30K in 30.1 innings pitched. In his last outing against KC, which I know was a non-save situation he pitched one inning and gave up two runs on two hits, including a homer. Then there was this game against San Francisco on June 12th, where he came into the game with a 6-5 lead. He ended up giving up four runs on five hits and a loss. And when he does get a save he gives up at least one run. IMO this is terrible....

it's been well-documented around here that julio does pretty well in save situations, but when he's "just getting work", he tends to get shelled.

his save conversion rate is like 80% (not gagne, but not bad) and his era is ~3.00 in save situations.
