Also look for the guy that hits the most HR's in the 1st round, to crap out when it gets serious. That seems to happen year after year as well. They maybe tire themselves out.
I'm going for one of the longshots this year. Either Berkman or Tejada.
Never won by Bonds, Sosa, and co?
1995- Bonds 1996- Griffey Jr. 1997- T. Martinez 1998- Griffey Jr. 1999- Griffey Jr. 2000- Sosa 2001- L. Gonzalez 2002- Giambi 2003- G. Anderson
5 out of 9 years it was won by Griffey Jr, Sosa or Bonds. But I agree with you in that I can see unexpected guys winning it as there have been some underdogs like Garrett and Gonzo.
As I said, since I have been watching it. 2001 was my first year and Bonds, Sosa and co were all the rage and Gonzalez won it. Sosa went berserk in the 1st round but was a spent force in the finals. Last year when highly favoured, Giambi went bananas in the 1st round but faded in the finals.
Doesn't look like anyone is killing the ball this year in the first round except maybe Raffy (who shouldn't even have been there).
Anyways I got my two outsiders into the semis at least.

That was awesome....... Berkman really put on a show there, he crushed about 4 consecutive pitches out of the park. Awesome. It wouldn't have mattered if he was batting righty or lefty, the short porch didn't have much of an impact
