Half-time report?

Postby chris8 » Mon Jul 12, 2004 11:43 am

Now we've reached the All-Star break, how does everyone feel about the Mets' performances so far?

High points for me:

a) 1 game over 500 and only 2 games out of 1st place. Solid platform to build on and to challenge for the division in the 2nd half.
b) 3 excellent starters and the best ERA in the league.
c) Hidalgo's signing seems to have sparked off some decent hitting.

Low points:

a) Reyes out for most of the first half.
b) Lack of run support for starters.
c) Not enough quality after Glavine, Leiter & Trachsel

2nd half hopes:

a) Improvement on 500 record against division.
b) Cut out the (far too many) fielding errors.
c) POST-SEASON PLAY!!

Any other thoughts or comments?

Jim Duquette is turning out to be a great GM IMHO. It's a nice feeling to have confidence in your GM after all the Steve Phillips years. My biggest hope for the second half is that J.D. keeps moving this team in the right direction for the future. If we somehow win the division or get the wild card, excellent. But let's not let this division be Fool's Gold and make us sacrifice youth/talent for some over-the-hill bum.

As long as this team keeps playing with intensity I will be happy. ;-D

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
