Cabrera to the Cubs?

Postby CubsFan7724 » Mon Jul 12, 2004 8:01 am

The rumor from 4 different news sources is that a deal between the Expos and the Cubs are close. The trade was said to be Alex Gonzalez and a minor leaguer for Cabrera. This would probably greatly increase Cabreras value and also lower Vidros. So trade away Vidro and pick up Cabrera if you need help at SS.

That would be a good trade for the Cubs IMO. Like you said, the Cubs need a SS and the Expos are shopping Cabrera.

The Cubs I feel could be big players in the trade market this year if they get Cabrera and Guardado/Urbina.

I don't really see how this affects Vidro. He will probably get traded anyway. Even if he doesn't, they already have no one and Cabrera has been terrible this year.

Vidro will not get traded away. He just signed a long-term contract with the Expos, and has said he wants to stay in Montreal (don't ask me why).

This would be an outstanding trade for the Cubs if they can pull it off. However, I don't see why Montreal would be willing to do it unless the unnamed prospect is top notch. This year aside, Cabrera is a rising young star and plays good defense. Congrats to the Cubs if they can pull it off.

they are talking either guzman or brownlie and Alex Gonzales...
other names are mitre, wellemeyer, Beltran

as a cubs fan I like the trade, but am hesitant to trade away more great arms in our minors -

I dunno if they'll take a top notch prospect. They're trying to unload Cabrera because he's already made it clear he'll not be returning to the Expos, no matter where they play. I really don't think it'll take a blue chipper to get him. Maybe Gonzalez and Mitre, but anything else is overpaying. Do you see Cabrera's batting average? Plus I do believe he's a rental and he'll be a FA after this year.
