Injuries killing anyone else?

Postby jdh » Sat Apr 12, 2003 9:53 pm

Is anyone else getting killed by injuries as badly as I am? First, Adam Kennedy went on the DL. He's only my backup 2B so its not that big of a deal. Then, I lost Giles for at least two weeks. Yesterday, apparently Odalis Perez sprained his ankle running bases and he is questionable for his next start. Sweeney is out with the flu. Now, watching the game tonight, Cliff Floyd had to leave the game with an apparent pulled hamstring.

Thankfully, my league allows a generous 5 DL slots so I can pick up other players if they go on the DL but it is still incredibly irritating.

with five DL spots , it's like having your own spring training .
Put the horses to rest, check the young colts to see if they can run
with the studs. Discard the weak , dominate your league.

The only thing is that the players have to be officially on the MLB DL before you can plunk them in a DL slot so you can't use it to get yourself 5 extra free roster spaces. Once they come off the DL, you then have to drop people before you can do any more transactions.

yeah that pretty much explains the DL ...what you do is pick players up for your dl before they're activated then watch to see what they do before you put them on your roster, if they suck pick up someone else.

Giles just killed my team. I heard he can be out for about 3 weeks.

Just saw on another site that it could be up to six weeks if in fact he doesn't need surgery. A torn meniscus was the diagnosis but they want the "burgh" doctors to evaluate him for themselves. We will no on Monday night.

TO answer you first question - it does suck! Jeter and now this! AAAHHH!!!!!!

This is why you avoid drafting players that are injury prone. Griffey, Rivera, Floyd. I put potential superstars that are injury prone in my disinclude list before the draft and use those picks that would draft them to get myself a healthy team with less of an upside but at least the floor won't fall out from under me. Sometimes you just get unlucky though and normally healthy guys start dropping like flies. Hey, that's baseball brother.

Like a previous poster, I too lost Jeter and Beltran.

But a late-mid round pick of Jose Cruz Jr. has made the loss of Beltran unnoticable, and my 23 round (second to last) pick of Christian Guzman, has been a servicable alternative.

I would just like to say that Jeter and Beltran were two of the most injury free players in the league coming into this year so it would be slightly impossible to avoid drafting them b/c of injury concerns.

Thats just bad luck and its terrible luck if you had both of them.
