Does it matter? NY is gonna have either Maggs or Beltran in their lineup next year anyway... maybe even both.

The Yankees won't sign Magglio unless they plan to play him in center. They have Sheffield under contract until 2006 and Matsui under contract until 2005. Both have no-trade clauses. They also have Williams through 2006 and Lofton through 2005. Both of those guys will be tough to trade unless they just give them away which is a possibility. So they don't even have room for Beltran although I doubt that will stop them from signing him.
Bernie is old and playing with a bum knee. Lofton was lucky to keep his job earlier in the year. The yankees don't care what they are being paid, they'll sit or cut them if they can get better players. I have NO idea what they would do with Maggs... but it's not like the Arod move was logical either.
